In der Lecture Performance glitched skins and surfaces wird die performative Recherche zu Körperbildern auf einer Social-Media-Plattform sowie deren performative Interpretation und Bearbeitung mittels eines KI-Bildgenerators aus der Perspektive der bildenden Künstlerin Yvon Chabrowski, deren Praxis aus der Fotografie hervorgegangen ist, nachvollzogen. Dabei werden feministische Standpunkte skizziert und historische Bezugspunkte zu Genres der analogen und digitalen Fotografie beleuchtet.
Zudem werden Aspekte von Embodiment verhandelt und die Generativität generativer KI analysiert, das heißt ihre Funktionsweise sowie die technischen und gesellschaftlich-politischen Entscheidungen, die in ihr eingeschrieben sind. Im Zentrum steht die Frage, wie sich binäre Körperformationen im Kontext von Social-Media-Plattformen sowie in generativen KI-Modellen reproduzieren und zu einem Plattformrealismus führen.
In the lecture performance glitched skins and surfaces, the performative research on body images on a social media platform, along with their performative interpretation and modification using an AI image generator, is traced from the perspective of visual artist Yvon Chabrowski, whose practice has its roots in photography. Feminist positions are outlined, and historical points of reference to genres of both analog and digital photography are examined.
The lecture performance also addresses aspects of embodiment and analyzes the generativity of generative AI, that is, its mode of operation, as well as the technical and sociopolitical decisions embedded within it. At its center is the question of how binary body formations are reproduced in the context of social media platforms and generative AI models, and how this reproduction leads to a form of platform realism.
